History:
Fellbach lies in a landscape which is full of history. Sensational findings from the time of the Celts ("forged deer"), the Romans ("Mithra's Sanctuary") and the Alemanni (graves) prove the culture historical wealth of the area. First mentioned in documents in the year 1121, Fellbach is also an original cell of the Swabian pietism. During the 19th and 20th century, the Wengerterdorf (wine gardening village) at the foot of the Kappelberg (market town since 1811) developed with progressive success to a community of its own and self-conscious coinage. Adopted as a city in 1933 and a district city in 1956, in the years 1973/74 Fellbach combined with the neighboring communities of Schmiden and Oeffingen to become the second largest city in the Rems-Murr District which can assert itself as a community political, economic and cultural city in the direct vicinity of the state capital Stuttgart.
Economy:
Fellbach is an attractive economic location in the Rems-Murr District. Viniculture and agriculture have marked the image of the city but more than one hundred years ago the first industrial companies were founded below the Kappelberg and a healthy mixture of fields has developed from this. For example Fellbach has become a center for furniture trade and a location with numerous publishing companies. The Kappelberg city has the most positive number of commuters in the entire district with a clear surplus of people commuting to the city. Through the location in the middle of the Stuttgart region, Fellbach has good traffic connections and can be reached easily both from the state capital as well as the relaxing landscape of the Rems Valley. This location advantage is especially important for the service sector. Companies in the insurance, advertising and graphic branches have increasingly settled in Fellbach in the past years as well as high tech companies. Fellbach is the location of Europe's first prefabricated house and swimming pool exhibition which is visited by many thousand people wanting to build a home each year. In the summer of 2003, the competence and innovation center "Virtual Dimension Center" (VDC) began operating in Fellbach. Fellbach is thus nation wide a precursor for the economic use of virtual reality.

The historical permanent exhibitions in Germany's largest community press invite you to take an interesting tour. Fellbach's Old Press is however not only a viniculture museum, but also a place for contemporary art and culture with a diverse event program. As the "House of Wines", the Old Press in addition provides the Rems Valley route an ideal platform for self-projection as well as for the presentation and tasting of good wines which the Wengerter (wine gardeners) of the Rems Valley have to offer year after year.
