History:

Filderstadt resulted from the community reform from 1 January 1975. Since then it includes the city districts of Bernhausen, Bonlanden, Harthausen, Plattenhardt and Sielmingen.
Of course the history of the five city districts is much older. Due to the good soil, the Fildern have been settled since the early Stone Age. For centuries, they served as the agricultural "pantry" of Stuttgart. The famous Filderspitzkraut (Filder cabbage) used to be of great importance and the people in Bernhausen have dedicated a memorial to it.
The former wealth is pointed out by the numerous timber frame houses in the hearts of the towns. To be emphasized are above all the town centers of Bernhausen and Bonlanden where the Filderstadt Homeland Museum is also located.
Economy:
The numerous companies located in Filderstadt appreciate the good traffic connections (airport, advantageous arrival by car) as well as the closeness to the research locations of the Universities Stuttgart and Hohenheim. 16,000 jobs are currently counted.
Mechanical engineering, data processing, electro-technology as well as paper and printing count among the most important production trades, more than half of the jobs however are in the area of services.
In addition around 500 handicraft companies are located here. The town centers are characterized through numerous retail companies which have a large and qualitatively high value assortment of goods.
The advantageous location and the structures make Filderstadt an attractive living and industrial location.
Also in the future a healthy mixture of branches and jobs with differing quality demands are to be maintained.
Filderstadt also offers something special in the area of health care. In the Filderklinik, a hospital which follows the basics of Anthroposophy with 230 beds, patients from the entire nation are treated - for many as an alternative to orthodox medicine.

Fortress Bonlanden
The mighty stone house comes from the 14th century and was the residence of the local noblemen of Bonlanden. The fortress was never besieged or even conquered. From the 16th century comes the stone bridge with a round arch, from the 18th century the mighty hip roof. The completely maintained medieval enclosure of wall and trench is considered to be rare in the Stuttgart region. Since 1470, the former fortress of Bonlanden has been used as a parsonage.
The fortress can only be seen from outside.
