Ludwigsburg - one thinks of the "Blooming Baroque" around the impressive castle grounds which the Wuerttemberg Duke Eberhard Ludwig had commissioned to be built as "his Versailles".
In its core, the district city Ludwigsburg still breathes in the unique ambience of the second residence and at the same time shows on its grounds the cool strictness of the city, which was built for and dominated by the military.
The district of Ludwigsburg is the heart of the old Wuerttemberg state. It is embedded in a diversified landscape around the Hohenasperg - the unofficial district landmark - with the historical state fortress between the Enz and Murr, Glemswald and Stromberg. The Neckar flows through the middle.
On the steep slopes of its banks from muschelkalk sandstone, wines grow which are known to connoisseurs far beyond the borders of the state.
The district of Ludwigsburg is 687 km² large. It includes large parts of the Neckar basin to the north of Stuttgart. In 39 communities - among them five large district cities - half a million people live (source: http://www.landkreis-ludwigsburg.de/).
