Lecture by Sabine Lutzeier

At the beginning of the 19th century, Napoleon's Egyptian campaign gave rise to so-called Orientalism in art. As travelers on location, artists such as Eugène Delacroix, later August Macke and Paul Klee as well as Henri Matisse himself saw the wealth of forms and colors there in a 'different light'. The most important and most beautiful of these initially romantic, then increasingly abstract paintings will be presented in the lecture and discussed in their context.
