Architekturgalerie am Weißenhof

in 3.0 Kilometer Start Route

The Architekturgalerie am Weißenhof e. V. was founded in 1982 by Stuttgart architects and the BDA Baden-Württemberg. This makes it one of the oldest architecture galleries in Europe. Conscious of its historical location, in the year of its foundation it moved into the ground-floor apartment of the terrace house at the Weissenhof, which was built in 1927 according to plans by Peter Behrens. As part of a former model house, the rooms of the gallery are now one of the few places in the internationally famous Werkbund estate Die Wohnung that are open to the public. The gallery gladly took on the obligation to keep the groundbreaking program of 1927 visible in dealing with contemporary and historical architecture and has so far been able to achieve an exciting and productive reflection in over 170 exhibitions.

The Architekturgalerie am Weißenhof has set itself the task of presenting the development of contemporary architecture and urban planning between technology, fine arts and society in exhibitions, lectures and symposia. It is aimed at both the specialist public and the interested general public. It strives for a balanced program between current trends in building culture and topics of recent architectural history, whereby it seeks intensive discourse and each time faces up to the demands of aesthetic presentation and critical reflection.
