in 140 Meter Start Route

The Graf-Eberhard-Bau Stuttgart in Art Nouveau style was built by the Association for the Welfare of the Working Classes under Eduard Pfeiffer to complete the redevelopment of the old town behind it. Today it houses the city planning office.

It is worth taking a look around the Graf-Eberhard-Bau: 36 new buildings with 141 workers' apartments were built on the site of 87 dilapidated houses, some of which dated back to the Middle Ages and were in terrible hygienic conditions. The architect was Karl Hengerer. In this heyday of Art Nouveau, particular emphasis was placed on the sculptural decoration of the buildings. The houses therefore have beautiful portals, oriels and figures in the façade. The Geißplatz is crowned by the Hans-im-Glück fountain by Professor Johann Zeitler.

Especially in summer, the square around the Hans-im-Glück fountain is a popular meeting place with cafés and bars.
