Blaustrümpflerweg
"Always follow the sock!" is the motto on the 7.5-kilometre-long Blaustrümpflerweg trail. Walking time: approx. 2.5 hours. The blue socks on a white background show the way. From Marienplatz, the trail climbs steeply over little streets and alleys. The Karlshöhe and the Blue Trail are one highlight after another - literally. It's always worth taking a break and enjoying the views over vineyards, orchards and the Heslach valley. The descent to Südheimer Platz follows through the forest. Take the nostalgic cable car back up to the forest cemetery. From there, the hiking trail leads through the Degerloch forest. The second historic vehicle is waiting at the "Haigst" stop. The cog railroad aka "Zacke" effortlessly guides weary hikers back down to Marienplatz. What role does the blue sock play in all of this? According to legend, the people of Heslach betrayed Duke Ulrich on the run in 1519. When he returned to Stuttgart, he ordered the people of Heslach to wear blue leg warmers - stockings - from then on.
