Linden Museum Stuttgart

Stuttgart's Linden Museum is one of Europe's leading museums of ethnology, giving fascinating insights into the everyday lives, art and civilisation history of non-European peoples.

The museum is named after Count Karl von Linden (1838-1910). As director of the Württembergischer Verein für Handelsgeografie (Württemberg Association for Commercial Geography) he was in touch with people all over the world and requested objects for his collection, which later formed the basis of the museum. The seven large permanent sections on North and South America, Oceania, Africa, the Orient, and Southern and Eastern Asia are complemented by attractive special exhibitions. Up until 2nd June 2013 the Linden Museum focuses on the Maya of Central America, who between the 3rd and 10th centuries AD built wonderful palaces, pyramids and ball courts in Mexico, Belize and Guatemala.
