Winnenden

Well worth the journey... that's what the pug dog from Winnenden must have thought back in 1717, when he became separated from Duke Alexander during the Battle of Belgrade and turned up again in his home town of Winnenden eleven days later after a long walk! So why not follow suit and explore the diversity of this beautiful town?

Winnenden is a town of many faces. In its historic centre many reminders of its medieval roots are still to be found: restored timbered buildings, imposing Baroque town houses and modern architecture combine to create a harmonious whole. The same is true of the former royal palace of the rulers of Württemberg and its park. The palace chapel contains a special gem – the 16th-century altar dedicated to St. James.

Winnenden's location on the edge of the Swabian Forest, surrounded by delightful scenery, offers lots of scope for outings and hiking tours. And there's no shortage of inviting inns and traditional "Besenwirtschaften" (wine growers' taverns) either.
