First it was the Neckarstadion, then the Gottlieb- Daimler-Stadion, then the Mercedes-Benz Arena, and today it's the MHPArena – welcome to one of the finest football stadiums in Europe!

Planned from the outset as a multi-purpose facility, footballers in particular eagerly used the stadium's green grass. Even before the official opening, on June 25, 1933, a city match between the Stuttgart selection team and a selection from Nuremberg and Fürth took place in front of 30,000 spectators. From 1933 onwards, VfB also played many of its home games in the new municipal sports facility - although at the time it was still based on its own neighboring field, opened in 1919 - whenever a large number of spectators were expected. VfB celebrated its premiere in the Kampfbahn on August 20, 1933 with a friendly match against Schalke 04, and the first city derby against the Stuttgarter Kickers took place in the facility on January 21, 1934. After that, many memorable matches were played in Stuttgart's largest sports facility, in which not only VfB but also national and international football history was written.
