Oberwelt e.V. is an exhibition and event space in Stuttgart run by artists. The association has existed under various names since 1978 and is organized by different groups and individuals.
Oberwelt organizes events in the form of exhibitions, projects, events, lectures, seminars and discussions. A broad spectrum of contemporary forms of art and presentation, as well as artistic forms of action and existence are conveyed and produced. The questioning of common art concepts and art forms from the border areas of art play an essential role. Topics from art theory, sociology and politics as well as everyday artistic practice are discussed.
In collaboration with other self-organized exhibition spaces and groups, alternative possibilities of art presentation and the art market are examined. In addition to one-off events, conceptually coherent series take their place in the event program. Mainly non-established artists and groups can realize their ideas in the Oberwelt and present them to an audience. The Oberwelt e.V. team is not only active as a program organizer, but also produces its own collective works.
