Stuttgart Main Station

This Way

in 1.1 Kilometer Start Route

Built as a terminus between 1914 and 1927 by Paul Bonatz and Friedrich Scholer in the New Objectivity style, Stuttgart station is considered one of the most successful station buildings in Europe. Around 1,200 trains and approximately 200,000 passengers pass through here every day. Above all, the characteristic 56-metre-high station tower, on which a Mercedes star with a diameter of 4.2 metres has been visible from afar since 1952, serves as a landmark for the city.

The station tower is home to the TurmForum Stuttgart 21, a three-level exhibition on the Stuttgart 21 transport and urban development project, which has attracted a great deal of media attention and controversy in recent years. A multimedia show with three large projection screens, PC terminals, videos as well as a project library inform visitors about the project, which is to transform Stuttgart's terminus station into a modern through station in the next few years. As part of the Stuttgart 21 project, new track and high-speed lines are being built to connect Europe even more closely. In addition, Stuttgart 21 will also bring major urban development changes: The dismantling of railway tracks will free up an area of over 100 hectares for urban development in the long term. Among other things, a new city district will be created behind the main railway station.
