It is part of the Bach Academy's tradition to thoroughly explore Bach's music and to constantly change the perspective from which his work can be viewed and experienced. Many of Bach's works reveal influences, as he studied, copied and edited the scores of other masters throughout his life. These included Heinichen (1683-1729) and Zelenka (1679-1745), both of whom composed for the Catholic court in Dresden - music rich in emotion, virtuosity and compositional technique. Hans-Christoph Rademann conducts two of their mass compositions in this opening concert of the 2nd International Bach Festival - under the motto: Because we love Bach!
