Maria Farantouri presents: "100 Years of Mikis Theodorakis"
A voice that is associated with the work of Mikis Theodorakis like no other: Maria Farantouri, the great interpreter and musical ambassador of Greece, dedicates herself to the life's work of the composer of the century.
The concert evening, part of the official Mikis Theodorakis Year 2025, pays tribute to the work of an artist whose music became the voice of an entire nation - a musical monument to humanity, freedom and art.
For the first time, the complete music to "Zorba the Greek" will be performed live - the work that became the musical soul of Greece. Performed with the original instruments from the legendary 1964 recording.
In addition, Maria Farantouri will interpret her great historical songs by Mikis Theodorakis - those works that have moved generations and have become anthems of freedom, resistance and love.
The sound of bouzoukis, lutes and the filigree santouri merges with clarinet, violin and artfully interwoven orchestral arrangements to create an impressive listening experience - a combination of tradition and artistic expressiveness.
Popular soundtracks: some of Theodorakis' best-known film scores, including "Z" (1969), "Serpico" (1973) and "The Honeymoon Song" (1959) - an enchanting love song that gained worldwide fame through the Beatles' interpretation.
The music will be performed by Estoudiantina Neas Ionias - Greece's most renowned traditional orchestra - under the artistic direction of Andreas Katsigiannis, a long-time companion and musical confidant of Mikis Theodorakis, who was personally entrusted by him with the re-orchestration of many of his works.
