Bach's Missa in A major BWV 234 is original in many respects. The choice of two transverse flutes and strings without oboes is quite unique in his oeuvre. The key and instrumentation give this mass a relaxed and cheerful character that is unusual for Bach's church music. Many later entries in the score and in the continuo part attest to repeated performances in the 1740s - apparently this modern music was very popular! The concert with Hans-Christoph Rademann once again offers unique insights into Bach's compositional world as reflected in his time.
