Presumably all of the individual movements of Bach's four Kyrie Gloria masses are parodies - i.e. adaptations of previously composed music from sacred cantatas. However, Bach took a very considered and differentiated approach to this "recycling", so that in some cases completely new pieces were created. A comparison of the original and the parody provides a brief insight into Bach's complex parody practice.
