#29 SOLOMON'S KNOT: MARKUS-PASSION 1726
- Location:
- Johanneskirche Stuttgart, Gutenbergstraße 11, 70176 Stuttgart
Bach performed a St. Mark Passion several times, which was probably composed in Hamburg in 1707 and is attributed to Gottfried Keiser or Friedrich Nicolaus Bruhns. There is hardly any other work by a contemporary that Bach worked on as frequently and intensively as this Passion setting. Solomon's Knot presents the version of the surviving versions, which Bach arranged and added to differently each time (Weimar 1713, Leipzig 1726 and 1747), which was performed exactly 300 years ago in St. Thomas Church during Holy Week. The innovative collective of top singers and instrumentalists offers the Stuttgart audience this rarely heard, expressive music of the North German Baroque tradition - another fascinating sample of Bach's inspirations and sound ideals.
