75 Jahre SWR Big Band
- Location:
- Kultur- und Kongresszentrum Liederhalle, Berliner Platz 1-3, 70174 Stuttgart
When the SWR Big Band and the SWR Symphony Orchestra take to the stage together on October 30, the combination of classical sound culture and jazz can be experienced directly. George Gershwin's "Rhapsody in Blue" is at the heart of the program, a work that has been a symbol of the fusion of both musical worlds since its creation. The music of composer Nikolai Kapustin also forms an important point of reference for the evening. His incredibly virtuoso works combine the formal precision of classical music with the rhythmic energy of jazz. Together with conductor Dominik Beykirch, the SWR Symphony Orchestra and the SWR Big Band have already given impressive performances of this musical language. A central role is played by the Frank Dupree Trio, whose energetic interpretation contributes significantly to the power of this program and has already thrilled audiences in joint projects such as the New Year's Eve concert. A complete recording of Nikolai Kapustin's orchestral works with the Frank Dupree Trio, the SWR Big Band and the SWR Symphony Orchestra will also be released in the fall. Another highlight of the evening will be the world premiere of a new suite for big band and symphony orchestra by Thorsten Wollmann. One could hardly wish for a more suitable arranger, as Wollmann is excellently trained in both worlds and thus builds the perfect bridge between jazz and classical music. A concert evening that shows how naturally classical music and jazz can intertwine - and how music not only transcends boundaries, but also enriches them!
