Reading and Discussion with Kay Matter and Jayrôme C. Robinet
The intensity of the debate surrounding body norms and gender identity demonstrates
just how contentious questions of individual self-determination remain in our time. At
stake are self-perception and how others perceive us, understandings of roles in social and private spheres, as well as legal and grammatical frameworks. In this context, literature in particular can not only convey experiences but also reveal new intellectual and linguistic perspectives. Kay Matter and Jayrôme C. Robinet have created texts that oscillate between autofictional introspection and engaged essay writing. Matter’s “Muskeln aus Plastik” and Robinet’s “Mein Weg von einer weißen Frau zu einem jungen Mann mit Migrationshintergrund” reveal how closely trans* identities are interwoven with migration, care, and vulnerable health.

The event is sponsored by the Professional School of Education Stuttgart-Ludwigsburg and the Institute of Literary Studies at the University of Stuttgart.
