Reading and Discussion with Eva Menasse, Moderated by Miryam Schellbach
All that remains is a weekend cottage. This is where she once sought an idyllic life with her family, and now, following the end of her marriage, she wants to make a fresh start. Although the renovations and setbacks—the burst water pipes and the malice of the other allotment gardeners—trigger memories and new insights, she ultimately decides to sell the house she loves in order to rebuild her life and break out of her stable, solitary existence. Eva Menasse has written a novel about taking stock of one’s life. Menasse, born in Vienna, has lived in Berlin for over 25 years. Her latest novel, *Dunkelblum*, has been translated into many languages. In 2025, she was awarded the Austrian Booksellers’ Honorary Prize for Tolerance in Thought and Action.
