A midwifery project
They work in a space of transition, helping life into the light and into the world. The history of their profession dates back to ancient Greece. They have always worked in intimate spaces. Accompanying. Observing. Giving advice. Investigating. Supporting. Without the practical experience and knowledge of the "wise women", as they were called, doctors would be at a loss.
Every birth is a miracle, a moment of tremendous transformation for those giving birth and those being born. Physically and emotionally. For midwives, supporting this process is a responsible and complex task. Saying goodbye to life that ends before or during birth is also part of it.
We spoke to midwives and asked them to tell us who they are, what they experience, what concerns and moves them. Their perspective on the beginning of life is at the heart of our theater performance, which describes our diverse society - and refers to us, who were all once in the hands of a midwife.
