"... the listeners started / as I expected / at the piano sh! - then the forte came immediately - they heard the forte and clapping their hands was one - so I went straight to the Palais Royale for joy after the symphony - took a good drink - asked for the rosary I had promised - and went home." (Mozart to his father from Paris in 1778)
A stone of relief must have fallen from Mozart's heart during the final applause for the Paris Symphony at the Concerts Spirituels. The pressure of success in the metropolis was robbing him of sleep. Just the day before, he had been at loggerheads with the orchestra. He also turns night into day for the Linz Symphony. He writes it "head over heels" while passing through in the autumn of 1783, and once again one can only marvel in disbelief at the brilliance and wealth of ideas, here in close proximity to "Idomeneo" and "Figaro". At this Epiphany concert by the SKO with chief conductor Thomas Zehetmair, Grammy award-winner and Mozart visionary Pierre-Laurent Aimard shines with Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 24 in C minor. "Aimard is a pianist of light and color. He makes everything he plays clear and vivid." (Los Angeles Times)
