The Paratexte magazine asks authors for a thing of any kind that does not consist solely of letters. No conditions are placed on the selection of things - and the editors are optimistic about the fact that they might one day receive old car tires. The first issue focuses on "Ann Cotten's shoes", or to be more precise: seven pairs of shoes and a single Ann Cotten shoe. At first glance they appear to be mundane everyday objects, but at second or third glance they tell us stories about the circumstances of writing and the world in which writing takes place.
The editors read the magazine from page 1 to 93 (end) together with Ann Cotten and talk about the question: Do the things of life fit into literature?
