"Another Alphabet Playlist" #2 - Lesung & Listening

Location:
Kulturzentrum Merlin, Augustenstraße 72, 70178 Stuttgart
Date
October 8, 2025, 8:00 PM

A new series of events by ZEBRAS Collective at the cultural center Merlin, which opens up literary "worlds of sound".

Authors with a migration background not only read from their own works, but also present their favorite song whose lyrics are not in German or English. These are translated and projected like "subtitles" while the song is listened to together. We then learn the personal story of the authors.

The reading and listening are accompanied by a moderated talk. At our second "Another Alphabet Playlist" evening, we present the anthology "RAUMNEHMEN" by korientation. Netzwerk für Asiatisch-Deutsche Perspektiven e.V. with the following guests: Lilian Nguyen (editorial team korientation), Mayha Suaysom (book contributor), Yvonne Tang (book contributor) and Christine Vo (book contributor).

The anthology "RAUMNEHMEN" deals with the question: What does it mean to be "Asian" in Germany? - Using essays, memorabilia, comics, photos, reports and poems, 55 Asian-Germans and Asian-diasporic people from different Asian communities and generations talk about their lives. They share their stories about finding identity, longing and grief as well as loss, violence, flight, but also about resistance, joy, family and love.

korientation. Netzwerk für Asiatisch-Deutsche Perspektiven e.V. is a network for Asian-German perspectives with a socio-critical view of culture, media and politics. korientation was founded in Berlin in 2008 as a self-organization with the aim of empowering people with connections to Asia in Germany, making their diverse realities visible and counteracting racism.

Before and after the event, Mayha Suaysom and Duc-Thi Bui from ZEBRAS Collective will play more songs with lyrics that are not in English or German for you, while all attendees are invited to help shape the "Another Alphabet Playlist" with one or more songs. To do this, we help ourselves to the 100 million songs of a music streaming service, from which the automatic algorithm strangely only ever suggests the same songs. - "Let's
merge our music bubbles! It's time to beat the computer-generated
algorithm! Together as humans!"
