Ankara, a printed textile that is widespread in Nigeria, is the focus of this study. It symbolizes African affiliation and circulates globally through fashion. Its uses in Nigeria and Brazil are analysed as well as the practices through which its Africanity is created, shaped by racialization, tradition and modernity.
