In a league of its own
Beethoven - Concerto for Piano and Orchestra No. 1 in C major op. 15
Beethoven - Symphony No. 6 in F major op. 68 "Pastorale"
Jakub Hrůša is not only one of the greatest conductors of our time: the charismatic Czech is also known for opening up new perspectives on supposedly well-known works in cleverly thought-out programs. At Russ Klassik, we can now look forward to a real prime example of this special art: Hrůša's juxtaposition of Beethoven's expressive First Piano Concerto with the epic Sixth Symphony, the Pastorale, not only impressively demonstrates the tremendous development the composer underwent in the almost ten years that separate the two compositions. But also - once again - that Beethoven is simply in a league of his own. Incidentally, the latter also applies to Igor Levit's pupil and this evening's soloist Lukas Sternath, who is currently enjoying an impressively stellar pianistic career.
