Reading and discussion with Marco Balzano
Moderation: Paola Barbon, reading voice: Johannes Wördemann
Trieste, 1920: Mattia is a fascist of the first hour. His face is still beardless, which is why he is called Bambino, but his beatings are so hard that half the town is afraid of him. Mattia doesn't know who his mother is. Even one from over there? A Slovenian? His father, an anti-fascist and watchmaker, won't tell him. In the mud and dirt of the Second World War, Mattia finally loses all certainties and learns that today's winner can be tomorrow's loser. Translated from the Italian by Peter Klöss. Marco Balzano, born in Milan in 1978, is one of Italy's most successful authors. He writes poems and essays, short stories and novels. He was nominated for the Premio Strega with "I'm staying here", and the book was a big bestseller in Italy and German-speaking countries. He lives with his family in Milan.
