The brains behind the Band in the BIX, founded in 1998, are drummer Meinhard "Obi" Jenne, who regularly invites guest musicians from all over Germany to join the regular line-up, thus pursuing his idea of an open community among jazz musicians, and saxophonist and arranger Libor Sima.
The list of invited musicians reads like a "who's who" of the German scene - in addition to established jazz musicians, "rising stars" are also regularly invited. This always results in new interpretations, important composers are introduced, but also other musical theme evenings become a unique experience every time.
For a long time, the Band in the BIX has concentrated on carefully selected repertoire and has attracted attention, not least with the video series "10 Milestones of Jazz".
One of the most exciting programs is the musical encounter with the most successful jazz record of all time: Miles Davis' eighth studio album, "Kind Of Blue", recorded in 1959.
Each composition is explored for its special features and these are taken into account by means of sophisticated technique and a vital joy of playing. Far from being overly intellectual and introverted, the band knows how to breathe contemporary musical relevance into these wonderful compositions in a unique way, not to mention a considerable entertainment value.
Line-up: Axel Schlosser (tp); Libor Sima (tsax); Jan Prax (asax); Olaf Polziehn (p); Jean-Philippe Wadle (b); Obi Jenne (dr)
