Band in the BIX / night of ballads and blues

The brains behind the Band in the BIX are drummer Meinhard "Obi" Jenne, who regularly invites guest musicians from all over Germany to join the regular line-up, thus pursuing his idea of an open community among jazz musicians, and saxophonist and arranger Libor Sima.

The list of invited musicians reads like a "who's who" of the German scene - in addition to established jazz musicians, "rising stars" are also regularly invited. This always results in new interpretations, important composers are introduced and other musical theme evenings become a unique experience every time. The band's playing culture is based on the jazz tradition; the music of the great old masters is interpreted with the spirit of modern jazz in a stylistically confident and energetic manner, without ever losing the freedom of this music.

On this Good Friday, you can look forward to a selected playlist and a program that goes into the depths of the music - from smoky ballads, earthy blues themes and creative improvisations to songs that will immerse you in the atmosphere of jazz and blues.

Responsible for today's program are the fantastic trumpet soloist of the HR Big Band Axel Schlosser and the gifted saxophonist Libor Sima. In addition to his saxophone skills, Sima regularly demonstrates his ability as solo bassoonist with the SWR Radio Symphony Orchestra. As can be heard on the CD "Kind of Stuttgart", successfully released in 2015, he is also an arranger and composer!
