Duo evening with Muriel Bardon, violin, and Yujin Bae, piano
For their annual concert at Theater la Lune, the two musicians have programmed Bélà Bartok's 2nd Violin Sonata, one of the most important works in the 20th century repertoire for violin and piano.
With its unique language of expressing something intangible, this work fascinates and captivates the listener.
It is "not a question of understanding, but of feeling" whether one can accept this style. ....Those whose senses are ready for this music will find depth of feeling alternating with elementary simplicity. It is at once close to nature and written in a strangely distant idiom." (English earwitness 1929, Edwin Evans)
This composition is framed by two other important works of this genre, which form a contrast to Bélà Bartók: both Beethoven's 10th Violin Sonata and Prokofiev's 2nd Violin Sonata are characterized by their lyrical, cheerful and graceful mood.
Program:
Ludwig van Beethoven, Sonata No. 10 in G major op. 96 for violin and piano
Bélà Bartòk, Sonata No. 2 for violin and piano, Sz.76
-Pause-
Sergei Prokofiev, Sonata No. 2 in D major for violin and piano, op. 94a
