"Music as final consolation"
Program:
Haydn - String Quartet in F major op. 77/2
Ullmann - String Quartet No. 3 op. 46
Schubert - String Quartet No. 15 in G major D 887
Under the motto "Music as final consolation", the Bennewitz Quartet spans an arc from light to darkness, from hope to transience. Haydn's Quartet in F major op. 77/2 radiates cheerful clarity and joie de vivre. Viktor Ullmann's String Quartet No. 3 op. 46, written in the Theresienstadt ghetto, is completely different: music of shattering inwardness and unbroken dignity. In Schubert's late G major Quartet D 887, pain and beauty are condensed into a poignant confession - consolation that takes shape in music.
