Peter Erskine has been playing drums since the age of four and is known for his versatility and passion for working in different musical contexts.

He has contributed to over 700 albums and film scores, won two Grammy Awards and was awarded an honorary doctorate by the Berklee School of Music. Fifty albums have been released under his own name or as co-leader. He has played with the big bands of Stan Kenton and Maynard Ferguson, Weather Report, Steps Ahead, Joni Mitchell, Steely Dan, Diana Krall, Kenny Wheeler, Mary Chapin Carpenter, the Brecker Brothers, the Yellowjackets, Pat Metheny & Gary Burton, John Scofield and many others. He has performed as a soloist with the Beethoven Orchestra Bonn as well as with the Philharmonic Orchestras of London, Los Angeles, Chicago, the BBC Symphony Orchestra, the Bochum Symphony Orchestra, the Tokyo Metropolitan Orchestra, the Yomiuri Nippon Orchestra, the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra and the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra.

He played the world premiere of Mark-Anthony Turnage's "Erskine - Concerto for Drumset & Orchestra" with the Beethoven Orchestra Bonn and performed it at the Hollywood Bowl with the Los Angeles Philharmonic. Peter was voted "Best Jazz Drummer of the Year" ten times by the readers of "Modern Drummer" magazine and was inducted into its Hall of Fame in 2017. Peter graduated from the Interlochen Arts Academy and studied at Indiana University with George Gaber. Peter is the author of several books, including "No Beethoven" - an autobiography and chronicle of the band Weather Report - and his latest work "The Musician's Lifeline". Peter is Professor of Practice and Chair of the Percussion Department at USC and teaches master classes worldwide. His recent projects include several innovative playalong apps for iOS.
