Over the past semester, the students of the Coltrane Ensemble from the jazz department at the Stuttgart University of Music have been intensively exploring the music of John Coltrane.

They approach his multi-layered work in their very own way, bringing in personal perspectives, individual sound ideas and contemporary playing styles. John Coltrane is one of the most influential artistic personalities in jazz.

His work ranges from energetic hard bop to modal concepts and spiritually influenced, free forms. This stylistic diversity forms the starting point for the ensemble's exploration of selected compositions that are challenging both in their structural clarity and in their improvisational demands.

in both their structural clarity and their improvisational demands. The concert sees itself as a snapshot of this artistic approach: respectful of tradition and at the same time open to new interpretations. The result is a program that not only pays tribute to John Coltrane's music, but also brings it vividly into the present. You can look forward to an exciting concert evening.

Cast: Rafaele Günthner (sax); Yoshi Tschira (git); Oskar Rimmele (p); Nils Becker (bass); Theo Wolf (dr); Sandi Kuhn (ltg.)
