Symphonic cantata by Felix Medelsohn Bartholdy

"The night has passed, but the day has come"
In Mendelssohn's "Lobgesang", composed in 1839/40, the image of the development from darkness to light takes center stage alongside central words of thanks and praise.
In its form, Lobgesang is a new creation; it is neither a psalm setting nor does it have the narrative structure of an oratorio. The designation as a "symphonic cantata", which was only added later, also testifies to an unusual compositional process: Mendelssohn combines existing sketches for an instrumental symphony with quotations from the Bible and the hymn "Nun danket alle Gott".
Which Sunday in the church year would be better suited for a performance than the Sunday cantata: "All that breathes praise the Lord!"

Matgorzata Roctawska, soprano | Filippa Möres-Busch, mezzo-soprano | Marcus Elsässer, tenor | Markuskantorei | Kammerchor Ostfildern | Rondo vocale | Claudia Großekathöfer, rehearsal | Lukas Nagel, conductor
