Necessity out of humanity - Mendelssohn Bartholdy, Cage, Lachenmann, Jennefelt, Arnesen, Fußeder

Our Stiftsmusik scholarship holder ensemble, the collegium vocale Stuttgart, places contemporary choral music at the center of its concert. In 1967, the Stuttgart avant-garde composer Helmut Lachenmann (*1935) composed Consolation I for 12 voices and percussion ensemble. Lachenmann understood the text, a passage from Ernst Toller's drama Masse Mensch (1920), as "consolation in the face of helplessness and fear of existence". The melodious Even When He Is Silent by Norwegian composer Kim André Arnesen (*1980) also exudes comfort. The new, as yet untitled work by Elisabeth Fußeder (*2000), who studied composition in Freiburg, is very topical.
