What to do with all the pachyderms? In her new novel "The Gift", Gaea Schoeters brings thousands of elephants to Germany. The Federal Chancellor soon realizes that the animals have not escaped from the zoo, but are a gift from the President of Botswana. He sent 20,000 elephants to Germany after the German government decided to ban the import of hunting trophies, thereby depriving the poor regions of Botswana of their livelihood. "You Europeans want to tell us how we should live. Maybe you should try it yourselves ..." Following her successful novel "Trophy", Gaea Schoeters approaches the existential themes of global coexistence in "The Gift" from a different direction and with lightning-fast humor. Flemish author, journalist, librettist and screenwriter Gaea Schoeters was born in 1976 and lives near Antwerp. Her novels "Trophy" and "The Gift" were translated from Dutch by Lisa Mensing.
