With *The Child*, the multi-award-winning Iranian playwright Naghmeh Samini creates a moving political drama that begins with an image as simple as it is powerful: Three refugee women from Iraq, Afghanistan, and Libya are detained at a European border—with a newborn child. Each of them denies being the baby’s mother. As the interrogations proceed, the story unfolds into a powerful allegory about borders, responsibility, solidarity, and the meaning of humanity.
