Reading & discussion with Anne Rabe
Moderator: Matthias Bormuth
At a time when questions of morality are sometimes commented on disparagingly in the public sphere, Anne Rabe asks: Can we afford a world without the "M-word", without morality? On the
She uses poverty, migration and climate policy and increasing radicalization to show how morality is gradually being pushed out of the socio-political discourse and at the same time explains how morally sound thinking and action can contribute to tackling the problems of our time. In her book "The M Word", Rabe takes the "risk of publicity", which Hannah Arendt considers indispensable, especially when it comes to morally controversial issues, if political questions are to be clarified together. According to the philosopher, the challenge facing modern societies is not the contempt of the moral, but the recognition of its plurality, which Anne Rabe courageously outlines. Matthias Bormuth, Professor of the History of Ideas at the University of Oldenburg and an expert on the work of Hannah Arendt, joins Anne Rabe in conversation. Anne Rabe, born in 1986, is a playwright, author, screenwriter and essayist. She has been speaking for years about coming to terms with the past in East Germany.
