Das Urteil

This story revolves around the questions of flight and expulsion, revenge and justice, and the overzealous search for truth in a haunting way, bringing two very different men ever closer together in a kind of interrogation.

Jewish antiquarian Rabinovicz is waiting on a stopover from New York for his flight to Hamburg, where he is due to testify in a murder trial. Although the plane is not fully booked, someone anonymously gives him a valuable book so that he will give up his seat to someone else. And then there is this mysterious stranger, a German, who engages him in a conversation that soon revolves around the difficulties in the search for truth and justice. Rabinovicz becomes increasingly insecure.
