About Annemarie Schwarzenbach, Cathy Berberian, and Hannah Höch
Featuring Gaea Schoeters, Miku Sophie Kühmel, Katharina Eickhoff, Johanna Zimmer, and Doriana Tchakarova
Dead—and very much alive! “The Dead Ladies Show” celebrates remarkable women of contemporary history who have been unjustly forgotten or overshadowed by their male contemporaries. The show is hosted by Belgian writer Gaea Schoeters, who curated the evening, writer Miku Sophie Kühmel, and Katharina Eickhoff, a music journalist and host for SWR Kultur. They will each present exclusive short essays on the writer and photographer Annemarie Schwarzenbach (1908–1942), the painter, graphic artist, and collage artist Hannah Höch (1889–1978), and the composer and singer Cathy Berberian (1925–1983). We’re also shining a spotlight on two female composers: Cathy Berberian and Clara Schumann. Their works will be performed by two internationally acclaimed musicians: Johanna Zimmer, a performer and singer in high demand in both contemporary music and the lieder and oratorio repertoire, and lieder pianist Doriana Tchakarova.
