A play based on the short story by Ernest Hemingway
Translated by Luca Zahn
An old fisherman from Cuba hasn’t caught a fish in 84 days and is on the verge of despair—but he refuses to give up. With iron determination, he sets out on one last great adventure to catch a massive marlin. What follows is a relentless, days-long struggle between man and nature. In the vastness of the ocean, he battles not only the fish but also his own physical limits and the loneliness of his life.
Ernest Hemingway’s famous novella “The Old Man and the Sea” is not only an adventure but also a profound exploration of human existence, the importance of perseverance and hope, and the desire to achieve something in an often unforgiving world.
In a collaboration between Theater Lindenhof and the Altonaer Theater, Luca Zahn and Stefan Hallmayer explore the literary classic “The Old Man and the Sea” through the lens of humanity’s unshakable will to challenge nature and prove itself.
