Der Doppelgegner und sein Amphitryon

Location:
Theater am Olgaeck Stuttgart, Charlottenstraße 44, 70182 Stuttgart

The double opponent and his Amphitryon
"Is this hand mine? This breast here mine? Is the image that shines in the mirror mine?"

It's an amusing comedy, a rollercoaster ride of emotions and identities! Imagine yourself in a world where gods pull the strings and cause a lot of confusion.

Written in 1668 as a critique of the Sun King Louis XIV, Molière's light-hearted comedy is still relevant today.

In order to win Amphitryon's wife, Jupiter, the father of the gods, unleashes a war with Taphier. While his spouse Amphitryon goes to war, Jupiter assumes his form and seduces Amphitryon's wife Alcmene. Conventional relationships are thrown out of kilter, identities are fluid, relationships are turned upside down and the boundaries between right and wrong become blurred.
This burlesque comedy treats philosophical and social themes with entertaining lightness and folk theater techniques.
