Richard Wagner occupied a very special place in Loriot's life. So how could it be otherwise than that Loriot created his very own version of Wagner's "Ring" as an entertaining summary of the four operas according to the motto "What you always wanted to know about Siegfried"? He managed to present an abridged version of Wagner's 16-hour opus in one evening and finally shed some light on the complicated plot - amusingly and astutely.
For years, the "Ring an 1 Abend", which Loriot often performed himself, has delighted amateurs and Wagnerians alike. Jan Josef Liefers, one of Germany's most popular actors, leads us through the "Ring of the Nibelung", the premiere of which will be held for the 150th time in 2026. As forensic scientist Dr. Boerne in "Münster-Tatort", Liefers has been sweetening his work with Wagner operas for over 20 years. But instead of playing Boerne, this evening Liefers enters Wagner's world of the Nibelungs with Loriot's text. The musical part with major scenes from "Das Rheingold", "Die Walküre", "Siegfried" and "Götterdämmerung" is performed by a top-class ensemble of soloists and the Staatskapelle Weimar under the direction of Heiko Mathias Förster. Wagner's "Ring" in just over three hours - can that work? Yes, it can!
