A lecture by art historian Dr. Johanna Brade
Today, photos and films from cell phones and cameras refresh travel impressions. Two hundred years ago, a flourishing art genre was established in Silesia: prints as souvenir pictures for vacationers and spa guests offered picturesque motifs such as rock formations, buildings, mountain peaks, waterfalls, bridges over mountain streams or palaces, castles and parks alongside Silesian cityscapes and idyllic views of the Giant Mountains. Engravings, etchings and lithographs show a region "like in a picture book".
The art historian and author Dr. Johanna Brade was curator of exhibitions at the Silesian Museum in Görlitz from 1999 to 2024. She was instrumental in building up entire collections of fine art, which today comprise over 7,000 paintings, prints, sculptures and textile works.
