Heinrich von Kleist DER ZERBROCHNE KRUG comedy
Right and wrong, truth and lies, power and abuse of power - the themes of this classic, first performed in 1808, could hardly be more contemporary!
It's court day in Huisum, a small Dutch village. But today of all days, the village judge Adam can't find his judicial wig, which he so desperately needs. Not only would it complete his image as an official, it would also cover the unpleasant, large wound on his head that he must have somehow sustained during the night.
On this very day, the dreaded court councillor Walter turns up to check that the trial is going according to plan. After all, it's a clear-cut case: a jug has been smashed and the culprit is quickly identified. But it's not that simple! Little by little, it becomes clear that there is much more to it.
Tragic and comic at the same time, with a unique art of language and wonderful stage characters, "The Broken Jug" has been one of the most popular classics on the theater stage for over 200 years. In 2026, the play will also be used as A-level reading.
A new, opulent production by director Ulrich Wiggers and set designer Leif-Erik Heine ("Cyrano de Bergerac", "Kabale und Liebe" and others) with an outstanding ensemble led by six-time audience award winner Andreas Klaue as the village judge Adam.
