The village judge Adam wakes up in the morning with a thick skull, an unsightly head injury and a damaged foot. That must have been a bad night! And it's to be an even worse day, because Marthe arrives and wants to start a lawsuit because a beautiful jug has been demolished. It was allegedly Ruprecht, the fiancé of her daughter Eve - or was it a lover who visited Eve? But she won't say anything. In addition, court councillor Walter appears, who has been appointed by the government to oversee the administration of justice in the village. The village magistrate, who has a lot to hide and is not only sweating over a lost wig, but also the threat of Eve's testimony throws him off his stride. And so the trial takes its course.
