With Dirk Krausse (ed.), Günther Wieland (ed.) and Felicitas Schmitt (ed.)
The Celts are the first historically mentioned inhabitants of Central Europe. As early as the 6th and 5th centuries BC, they created city-like centers of power in southwest Germany.
This early Celtic civilization came to an end during the turbulent times of the Celtic migrations in the 4th and 3rd centuries BC. The Celtic societies reached a late bloom with the oppida civilization in the 2nd and 1st centuries BC, before immigrating Germanic tribes and the Roman occupation of Gaul led to profound changes.
On this evening, the editors of the book of the same name will describe the history and archaeology of the Celts in southwest Germany based on the latest research. All areas of life, from the economy, language and customs to art and religion, are vividly presented. The most important archaeological finds, including sensational discoveries of recent years, are shown in impressive pictures.
