Hannah Arendt
Reading and discussion with Eva von Redecker
Moderator: Matthias Bormuth
Contemporary fascism - it appears in a new form that is not always easy to recognize and even more difficult to explain. In her new book "Dieser Drang nach Härte", Eva von Redecker analyzes its diffuse nature and locates it at its core in the invocation of an unconditional claim to ownership, the defense of which goes over dead bodies. An illuminating book that sets solidarity against the rampant harshness of our time. Von Redecker's reflections convey a joy in thinking, not far removed from Hannah Arendt's impulse to discover moments of freedom in the precise understanding of our reality that are able to set thoughts in motion. In this sense, Eva von Redecker is also a political theorist who wants to see through autocratic dynamics in order to allow democratic criticism to become effective bit by bit, beyond arbitrary "power and violence", which Arendt also saw as the greatest dangers of the modern community. Matthias Bormuth, Professor of the History of Ideas at the University of Oldenburg and curator of the series on Hannah Arendt, will be in conversation with Eva von Redecker. Eva von Redecker, born in 1982, is a philosopher and freelance author. She deals with critical theory, feminism and authoritarianism, writes articles for ZEIT, The Guardian and Philosophie Magazin, among others, and can regularly be heard in radio and TV interviews. She grew up on an organic farm and now lives in rural Brandenburg.
