- Location:
- Kultur- und Kongresszentrum Liederhalle Stuttgart Beethoven-Saal, Berliner Platz 3, 70174 Stuttgart
Academic Choir and Academic Orchestra of the University of Stuttgart
Conductor: UMD Jakob Brenner
"This is the best of me. I saw and knew: this, if anything of mine, is worth your memory." Edward Elgar wrote these words after the final bars of his score of "The Dream of Gerontius". And he was proved right. He created a masterpiece of Romantic choral symphonic music characterized by deep religiosity and perfect dramaturgy. Based on the poem of the same name by John Henry Newman, Elgar composed the journey of a soul after death to its encounter with God, a musical vision full of hope, passion and poignant beauty. While "The Dream of Gerontius" has long been an integral part of the concert repertoire in England, it is rarely performed in Germany. All the more reason not to miss this special performance in the Liederhalle.
Under the direction of UMD Jakob Brenner, the Academic Choir and the Academic Orchestra of the University of Stuttgart perform the work with a top-class cast:
Kai Kluge (tenor) as Gerontius, Olivia Johnson (mezzo-soprano) as the angel and Jasper Leever (bass) as the priest and angel of death.
