A Boy Named Renate
It wasn’t planned that way—it just turned out that way
Mr. Baisch’s journey began with the miracle of his birth, which was so mysterious that it is still celebrated today in his hometown with an annual folk festival known as the Miracle of Ehingen. At the heart of this comedic and musical reading evening are texts in which Roland Baisch draws on his own life journey to paint a richly embellished portrait of postwar Western Germany.
He narrowly escaped the stuffy, narrow-minded atmosphere of his youth with the help of music—entertainment on a journey into the unknown: “A Boy Named Renate” is a brimming grab bag of songs and stories that touch the heart—and plenty of humor that strays from well-trodden comedy paths. Baron Münchhausen meets the serious side of life; Johnny Cash meets Frank Sinatra and Harald Juhnke.
Roland Baisch is accompanied musically by Frank Wekenmann on guitar, who lends the stories just the right sound with his keen intuition and virtuoso playing.
Even if there may be 389 ways to move an audience—Roland Baisch knows them all. (Stuttgarter Zeitung)
